What Is Crypto Trading Fee Cashback?

A complete guide to crypto trading fee cashback: how it works, why exchanges offer it, how much you can earn, and how to start getting rebates on Bybit, BingX, MEXC, OKX, and Weex.

Every time you open or close a position on a crypto exchange, you pay a trading fee. For active traders, these fees add up fast — often to thousands of dollars per month. Crypto trading fee cashback is a way to get a significant portion of those fees back, automatically, every day.

This guide explains exactly how it works, why exchanges offer it, and how you can start earning cashback on your trades today.

What Are Crypto Trading Fees?

Crypto exchanges charge a fee on every trade you execute. The fee structure almost universally follows the maker-taker model:

  • Taker fee — you pay this when you execute a market order that immediately fills against existing liquidity on the order book. You are "taking" liquidity.
  • Maker fee — you pay this (usually less) when you place a limit order that sits on the book and waits to be filled. You are "making" liquidity.

Note

On futures exchanges, the taker fee is the more common and more expensive of the two. Most active traders executing market orders or stop-losses are takers the majority of the time.

To put this in concrete terms: on Bybit, the standard futures taker fee is 0.10% and the maker fee is 0.036%. If you trade $100,000 in notional volume in a single day as a taker, you pay $100 in fees. In a month of similar activity, that's $3,000 — just in exchange fees.

The numbers scale linearly with volume. A trader doing $500,000 per day pays roughly $15,000 per month to Bybit in taker fees alone. That's a significant cost to optimize.

What Is Crypto Trading Fee Cashback?

Crypto trading fee cashback (also called a rebate) is when a portion of the fees you pay to an exchange is returned to you — typically on a daily basis.

It works differently from exchange fee discounts. A fee discount reduces what you pay upfront. Cashback means you pay the standard fee first, and then receive a percentage of it back after the fact.

The amount you receive back depends on:

  1. Your trading volume — higher volume means a higher cashback tier and a larger percentage returned
  2. The exchange — each exchange has its own fee structure and affiliate rebate rates
  3. The cashback provider — the platform facilitating the rebate (like SplitFee) determines what percentage they pass back to traders

A typical cashback range is 20%–50% of fees paid. On a $3,000/month fee bill, that means $600–$1,500 back in your pocket every month.

Why Do Exchanges Offer Rebates?

To understand cashback, you need to understand how exchanges generate it.

Every major crypto exchange runs an affiliate or referral program. When a trader joins an exchange through a referral link or by connecting their UID to an affiliate platform, the exchange pays a commission — a percentage of that trader's fees — to the affiliate.

This isn't a new concept. It's how exchanges acquire and retain traders at scale. The exchange's economics still work: they keep the majority of the fee revenue, and share a portion with the affiliate to incentivize bringing in volume.

Tip

The key insight: exchanges are willing to pay affiliates because acquiring a high-volume trader through referral is cheaper than acquiring them through advertising. The affiliate essentially does the distribution work for the exchange.

Cashback platforms like SplitFee sit in this affiliate relationship and do one thing differently: instead of keeping the affiliate commission, they pass the majority of it back to the trader.

The model works like this:

Exchange collects fee from trader
     ↓
Exchange pays affiliate commission to SplitFee
     ↓
SplitFee splits that commission with the trader
     ↓
Trader receives daily cashback payment

SplitFee keeps a small portion and returns the rest. The trader gets real money back on fees they were going to pay anyway.

How Much Cashback Can You Actually Earn?

The cashback percentage you receive depends on your daily notional trading volume — the total value of positions you open and close in a day, factoring in leverage.

Note

Notional volume = Deal size × Leverage × Number of trades per day. A $1,000 position at 10x leverage counts as $10,000 in notional volume.

SplitFee uses a tiered cashback structure:

TierDaily volumeBack
Seed< $100K20%
Bronze< $300K25%
Silver< $700K30%
Gold< $1M32.5%
Platinum< $1.5M35%
Diamond< $3M40%
Elite< $5M42.5%
Master< $7.5M45%
Legend< $10M47.5%
Whale> $10M50%

To see what this means in practice — if you trade $200,000 notional per day on Bybit (0.10% taker fee):

  • Daily fees paid: $200 (0.10% of $200,000)
  • Your tier: 25% cashback (< $300K/day)
  • Daily cashback: $50
  • Monthly cashback: ~$1,500

At $700,000/day notional volume, the same math gives you 30% back — roughly $6,300 per month returned.

The higher your volume, the more impactful cashback becomes. But even at modest volumes, the returns are meaningful compared to doing nothing.

Taker vs. Maker: Which Fee Is Cashback Calculated On?

SplitFee calculates cashback based on taker fees, since the vast majority of active traders — particularly those trading futures with market orders, stop-losses, and liquidations — generate fees primarily as takers.

This keeps the calculation transparent and predictable: your cashback is a direct function of your taker trading activity, not a blended estimate.

Maker orders, which generate lower fees (and in some cases rebates directly from the exchange), are not included in the SplitFee cashback calculation.

Is Cashback the Same as a Fee Discount?

No — they are different mechanisms, and the distinction matters:

Fee DiscountCashback
When you benefitAt time of tradeAfter the trade, daily
How it worksReduced fee rateStandard fee paid, portion returned
Who offers itExchange directly (VIP, tokens)Cashback platform
Stackable?SometimesYes — cashback stacks on top of any existing discounts

The important point: cashback and fee discounts can stack. If you already have a reduced fee rate due to VIP status or token holdings, your cashback is calculated on the fees you actually pay — meaning lower fees = lower absolute cashback, but you still benefit from both simultaneously.

How Does Connecting Work? Is It Safe?

To receive cashback through SplitFee, you connect your exchange account using your UID (User ID) — a public identifier assigned to every account on an exchange.

Note

Your UID is not your password, API key, or any security credential. It is a public numeric identifier used by exchanges to track affiliate relationships. Sharing your UID does not give anyone access to your account or funds.

The connection process:

  1. You register on SplitFee
  2. You find your UID in your exchange profile (it's publicly visible in your account settings)
  3. You enter it in SplitFee
  4. SplitFee registers you under its affiliate relationship with the exchange
  5. The exchange starts attributing your fee volume to SplitFee's affiliate account
  6. SplitFee distributes your share of the rebate daily

No API keys are required. No withdrawal permissions. No read access to your trading history. The only thing that changes is which affiliate account your fee volume is attributed to on the exchange's backend — a change that has zero effect on your trading conditions, fees, or account security.

Which Exchanges Support Fee Cashback?

SplitFee currently supports cashback on five exchanges:

BybitBybit0.1% taker · up to 50% backView → BingXBingX0.05% taker · up to 50% backView → MEXCMEXC0.04% taker · up to 50% backView → OKXOKX0.05% taker · up to 50% backView → WeexWeex0.08% taker · up to 50% backView →

Each exchange has its own taker fee rate, which means the absolute dollar value of cashback varies by exchange — even at the same cashback percentage tier.

For example, at $100,000/day notional volume (20% cashback tier):

  • Bybit (0.10% taker): $20/day cashback → $600/month
  • BingX (0.05% taker): $10/day → $300/month
  • MEXC (0.04% taker): $8/day → $240/month

Higher base fees = higher absolute cashback in dollar terms, even at the same tier.

When and How Is Cashback Paid Out?

SplitFee calculates and credits cashback daily. Your balance updates every 24 hours based on your trading activity from the previous day.

Once you have a balance, you can withdraw to USDT at any time. There is a minimum withdrawal threshold — check your SplitFee dashboard for the current minimum.

There is no lock-up period, no vesting schedule, and no minimum trading requirement to withdraw. You earn, it accumulates, you withdraw.

Is Cashback Worth It for Small Traders?

Yes — even at modest volumes. The break-even is simply having any trading activity at all. Since cashback is calculated as a percentage of fees you were already going to pay, there is no scenario where connecting costs you money.

At $10,000/day notional volume on Bybit (0.10% taker fee, 20% cashback tier):

  • Daily fees: $10
  • Daily cashback: $2
  • Monthly cashback: $60

Sixty dollars a month may not sound like much, but it compounds. And if your volume grows, so does your tier and your monthly return. There is no cost to staying connected.
